Finavia Chooses Era for Vehicle tracking

Finavia, Finland’s ANSP (Air Navigation Service Provide) selected Era to supply one hundred and thirty five vehicle tracking units at the country’s Helsinki Airport. Era a.s., is a subsidiary of SRA International, Inc. the vehicle tracking units are the latest-generation squid units, which will support Helsinki Airport’s (A-SMGCS) Advanced Surface Movement Guidance and Control System.

The airport is Finland’s busiest and North Europe’s leader in long haul. In 2009, it had more than 170,000 take offs and landings. Because of this, Finavia needed to enhance efficiency and safety for the airport’s ground operations. This is why they sought tracking units to provide control for air traffic.

The Squid units can easily be mounted on airport vehicles to act as ADS transmitters. Once they are mounted, they can automatically provide vehicle location. The units can also provide air traffic controllers with vehicle identification. This increase vehicle visibility and weather conditions to air traffic controllers at all times. They feature a function, which enables users to decide on areas in the airport where transmissions will automatically be turned off/on.

Eras’ services range in value of $ 1 to 2 or even up to five million, and their solutions address important issues such as safety, functionality, profitability and efficiency.
